Support of Attendance at the IOCongress™ 2026
Support of Attendance at the IOCongress™ 2026 in Merida, Yucatan, Mexico, November 30 – December 5 2026
Applications for partial support to attend the IOCongress2026 from students and ornithologists in low- and middle-income countries (https://datatopics.worldbank.org/world-development-indicators/the-world-by-income-and-region.html) are accepted starting on May 15, 2026. Students from high-income countries are welcome to apply, but will be considered only if funds remain. Recipients of travel awards will be notified by August 15, 2026.
Each applicant may submit only one application for a specific travel award. Therefore, please carefully review the conditions for each available travel support before applying to ensure you qualify. We'll disperse the funds immediately after the Congress via bank transfer. If you're facing financial hardship or other extenuating circumstances, we can adjust your payment method and timing, but you'll need to attend the Congress in person. The IOCongress2006-IOU Awards Committee does not guarantee support to all applicants and reserves the right to decide how to distribute its funds. Decisions by the Awards Committee are final and cannot be appealed. Each applicant must choose one fund to apply to:
- East and SE Asia Fund for Ornithology: https://www.internationalornithology.org/east-and-southeast-asia-travel-fund
- Mexico and nearby countries for citizens from Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean.
- Walter J. Bock Travel Fund: https://www.internationalornithology.org/walter-j-bock-travel-fellowship
- National Science Foundation Grant for students and postdocs in US universities
- minority group or underrepresented applicants are particularly encouraged to apply.

- Have a duly accepted abstract and be fully registered for the IOCongress2026.
- For student and postdoc applicants: Official document from the college or university certifying the status as a full-time student or post-doctoral fellow.
