Call for Abstracts – IOCongress2026
Abstract submission now open: https://iocongress2026.com/call-for-abstracts/
Presentation Formats for Research Results in Ornithology:
Oral Presentations (General Sessions): Share your findings with an international audience in a structured setting. Presentations (~12 minutes) will be followed by a brief Q&A session (~3 minutes) to promote discussion and engagement. Oral presentations are preferred for completed or near-final research.
Oral Presentations (Symposia): The Scientific Program Committee (SPC) will select four abstracts for inclusion in a list of hot-topic symposia. Presentations within symposia will be ~20 minutes long, followed by a ~10-minute question-and-answer session.
Each participant may submit only one abstract. The SPC will also consider the number of presenters from the same laboratory when allocating oral contributions. Attention will also be paid to the number of individuals in each lab who will present oral contributions. Please note that the presenter should be the first author.
Poster Presentations: Engage in direct, informal discussions about your research during dedicated poster sessions. Posters are ideal for presenting preliminary or ongoing results and are especially suited for students who could benefit from more direct contact and time. We particularly encourage interdisciplinary, cross-sectoral, and collaborative research, as well as contributions from underrepresented regions, communities, and early-career scientists.
Other presentation formats
Round Tables
International programs that want to present findings and discuss challenges in a focused subdiscipline of ornithology can propose a roundtable/symposium. The format should include both presentations and general discussion. The timing of roundtables could range from 1.5 to 2 hours. Proposals for roundtables should be submitted via the Abstracts submission portal.
Participants who want to organize a discussion around a particular topic, for instance, conservation, scientific collections, or another general issue, can also propose a roundtable, but we recommend designating at least two keynote presenters to structure the conversation.
Workshops
Participants who want to present a practical application related to ornithology, such as computer software or a demonstration of new technology, can also submit their proposal via the Abstracts submission portal, indicating the planned duration of the workshop. These events will take place on the day of the IOCongress opening ceremony and might be held in a venue close to the conference site.
