The Standing Committee on Ornithological Nomenclature of the IOC will meet to: (1) Discuss the 1996 meeting of the ICZN and the draft of the forthcoming 4th edition of the Code of Zoological Nomenclature. (2) Discuss an application to the ICZN to accept the list of Avian Family-Group Names published by Walter J. Bock in 1994 and any supplements as a list of Available Family-Group Names for Recent Birds under Article 79 of the forthcoming 4th edition of the Code. (3) Discuss the feasibility of undertaking a review of generic names for Recent Birds with the intention of developing a list of Available Generic Names for Recent Birds under Article 79 of the forthcoming 4th edition of the Code. (4) Discuss the status of existing applications concerning avian scientific names before the ICZN. (5) Hear and discuss new nomenclatural cases involving avian names. (6) Approve the report of the SCON to the IOC. All members of the International Ornithological Congress are welcome to attend, take part in the discussions and present new nomenclatural cases and problems to the SCON.
